Why I Still Have Hope For South African Music

This year has not been good in terms of music both locally and internationally. Most artists were bitten by the Euro/Electro pop bug, which was great in the beginning, but it became redundant. I miss the days where music was good!

Anyway, despite the flops that we have seen this year, I still have hope. I have recently discovered Jimmy Nevis, who is releasing his album tomorrow on the 1st of November. Jimmy hails from Cape Town and is 20 years old. He describes his music as nursery rhymes for adults and idolises Adele and Jamie Callum. This talented singer, songwriter and producer made it to the November issue of SA’s Seventeen magazine and is going places. South Africa really needs to appreciate and support his talent.

I love his voice! His quality is a cross between Chris Brown and John Legend. Very soulful, yet not overbearing. Peep the video below of his performance of his first single Heartboxing on popular TV show, Expresso.

If we could produce more artists with this kind of talent and dedication towards their work, our music could go places! Can’t wait to get my hands on the album!

You can listen to more of his songs HERE.

Enjoy!
