Trending In My Life This Week 5…

How quickly the week has flown and I wasn’t even having fun! I spent most of the week running back and forth trying to sort out all my payments for university and my accommodation. Grown up life is not easy and running errands makes you realise just how dependent we become on our mommies. Due to all this I haven’t done anything spontaneous or fun. Heck, I didn’t even pull an April Fool’s prank on anyone. Anyway…

On my playlist:

Chris Brown came out with a new song entitled Fine China and for the first time in what seems like forever, I enjoyed it! He is giving me a lot of Michael Jackson “You Rock My World” vibes in the music video and I am not complaining! Click on the picture below to check it out.

A young musician from the UK by the name of @GTsolo caught my eye when he followed me on twitter last year and I decided to click on the link on his bio. It lead to a blog where he showcased his music. One of the songs on the blog is titled “End Of The World” and I think it is absolutely great. Very fresh! Check it out by clicking on the picture below.

What I watched:

My heart was so moved when I saw this video of an old man named Frank. He has been in an old age home for about 10 years and has become unresponsive and agitated. This changes when he is given music from his younger years. He lights up and manages to express himself without being irritable or hostile. If you’ve ever doubted the magic of music, check out the video by clicking on the image below.

Yesterday also saw the reveal of Beyoncé’s latest Pepsi ad which features one of the songs that will be on her album. The song is entitled “Grown Woman” and we see Bey busting moves to it in the mirror reflecting her past looks. One of my close friends said that he hadn’t realised how iconic some of Beyoncé’s past looks were until he saw the video and I absolutely share the same sentiment. How do we know this? We recognised every look in the video from Bootylicious Bey to Work It Out Bey to Crazy In Love Bey to Single Ladies Bey. I think the video and tagline “Embrace your past but live for now." is absolute perfection. See the video by clicking on the image below.

What I found interesting on twitter:

A picture featuring a graph titled “UCT Students Vote For The Most Attractive Race” caused quite a stir on twitter. The graph was published alongside an article entitled "Is love colour blind?" When race issues arise in South Africa I often don’t take offence because I am of the opinion that we still haven’t resolved our racial issues as a nation. On the 26th of April 1994 we were a racist nation then we voted for democracy on the 27th. By the 28th we were all one big happy family. It doesn’t work like that and it’s proven to us every time something like this happens. Read the article HERE and the press release from UCT Varsity News HERE.

What I found interesting on the interwebs:

I saw a transcript of a recent interview that former president Thabo Mbeki did with the Sunday Times on Facebook and I was once again blown away by how rich his history is. The interview shows us Thabo in a way we haven’t seen him before. Conversational and humane. Read it HERE.

Plans for next week:

I will be writing a lot of music as well as a couple of articles that I am hoping to get published soon. I also have another venture  (I am keeping it under wraps for now) that I will be working on.

I have also been approached to do a style book for someone and I am absolutely excited about it. I don’t proclaim to be a style guru by any means but I do know a thing or two about fashion. What is a style book? Basically an album of looks. I will help this particular lady create different looks with clothes that she already has in her closet and we will take pictures of each look to create a style book that she can refer to without the hassle of having to face her closet and figuring out what to wear with what. Contact me on if you would like me to do this for you too.

The Tastes of Maboneng II will be happening at the Maboneng Precinct on Saturday and I am still not sure if I will make it. More info available HERE.

Have a lovely weekend!
