PLAYLIST: Diggy’s New York State of Mind, Beyoncé’s Formation and SWV’s new album

Run’s House was one of my favourite reality shows when the format first came out all those years ago. I have since then followed Angela and Diggy’s careers closely as they are the two who I relate to the most considering how close they are to my age.

While all the Simmons children have successfully carved their own paths in various paths, Diggy seems to be the musical one continuing the hip hop based dynasty of the family. He recently released a music video for his new single, New York State of Mind. He is definitely talented and one to watch. Peep the video below.

My more recent reality TV binge includes SWV Reunited which follows Taj, Cocko and Lelee’s journey to returning to the musical industry after an almost 15 year hiatus. The group just released their new album entitled Still and it is a great one for fans of real R&B. My favourite tracks are Ain’t No Man, When Love Didn’t Hurt and Miss You.

The instrumentation on the album is fresh, but the ladies are by no means trying to compete with the young ones of today. They are not powerhouse vocalists, but the way they use their voices makes for good music. Watch the Ain’t No Man music video below.

Beyoncé made the world stop upon the release of her new song Formation which was accompanied by a strong visual in the form of a music video. Formation sees Bey addressing people’s remarks towards her husband and daughters’ looks and police brutality towards black people in America. Watch the video HERE.

She also joined Coldplay at the Superbowl to perform the new song at the Halftime Show which is the most watched TV event in history. Watch the performance in which she tributes her idol, Michael Jackson, below.
