New music from Simphiwe Dana – My Light

Fresh from returning from New York where she performed at the Apollo Theatre, Simphiwe Dana has released a new single from her upcoming album. The track, simply entitled My Light, is about how she found solace in her son’s smile when things were tough. Upon releasing it she said:

I wanted my fans to have the first listen. You have carried me through and I’m ever so grateful. Salut

A while ago Simphiwe released Nzima which I was not exactly blown away by. With My Light, she has completely redeemed herself and regained her spot in my list of top musicians in SA. I’m excited to hear how the rest of her album will sound.

While in New York, the songstress performed at the Africa Now! concert with Hugh Masekela, Tumi Molekane and The Soil. The concerts aimed to celebrate 20 years of South Africa’s democracy, but I found it odd that there was no Kwaito artist in the line-up considering the huge impact it had on South African popculture in the 90s.

Listen to My Light below:

Check out these pics from her New York trip. I’m so jealous!

With Hugh Masekela with whom she shared the stage.

Felicia Mabuza-Suttle also stopped by. Still remember her?

With UN Deputy-Secretary-General and the Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka

At the legendary Apollo Theatre

Her name in lights

Doing what she does best

PS: Simphiwe Dana is often seen wearing Thula Sindi on the red carpet and during performances. Check out some of his beautiful Spring/Summer 2014 items HERE. Bargains!
