Lira talks about her USA Tour and performs on Arise Africa TV

Lira is without a doubt one of South Africa’s musical treasures. I have been following her US tour for a while and one of the most striking comments she made during an interview were; “I am considered the Beyonce of South Africa. While Beyonce doesn’t outsell me in South Africa, it is hard for South African artists to get the recognition they need.”

It speaks of the South African media whose bias is skewed towards Western music. Their artists grace our magazine covers and their music dominates our airwaves. I am proud of her for taking the leap despite this and infiltrating the US market. Here’s to more success for her and to doors opening for other South African musicians.

I stumbled across this interview and performance that she did with Arise Africa TV in the US. Enjoy.
