Istagrammers (people who have Instagram) are pissed at Intagram’s new terms of use. To those who aren’t familiar with Instagram (under which rock do you live?), it is a photo-sharing program and social network which allows you to take a picture, choose a filter to change the look and feel, add captions/comments, and share it.
For the most part, users are mad that the new policy allows Instagram to use pictures without the consent of the users and without compensating the users. In other words, they can sell your pictures without your permission and you won’t get a cent! I would be pissed too, to be quite honest. Imagine the killing they will make from selling your pics to advertisers. Advertisers would spend money on this to save money from hiring photographers, models etc. Okay maybe I’m exaggerating, but still.
The new policy also allows Instagram to share information about its users with Facebook and other affiliates and advertisers. You know what that means? Yip. More spam in your mailbox. This is enough to piss anyone who has to deal with an overflowing mailbox off.
All these changes are part of Facebook’s plan to monetise Instagram. As you may know, Facebook bought Instagram earlier this year at a hefty $1 billion. So this is probably their way to ensure that they get their money’s worth.
The new policy will be effective from 16 January next year.
What do you think of these changes? Are you quitting Instagram?
