“Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do” – John Wooden
Happy Monday! Happy new week!
It is a new week and I want to gear you up and give you this thought for the weak ahead. Hopefully it will propel you to do greater things than you did last week and to be a greater you than you were last week. That is what we life about, right? To be better than we were before. Let’s get into it!
Very often we focus so much on our weaknesses that we forget entirely about our strengths. I don’t know if the human mind is conditioned to notice the negative over the positive, but it is clearly evident that negatives get more attention. We see this in the news. Negative stories are readily published and are deemed more newsworthy than positive news.
At times this applies to oneself too. I’ve often heard girls complain about their nose that is too big for their face for instance. I know I complain about being too skinny quite a lot. Instead of focusing on the fact that we have fully functioning body parts and are in perfect shapes.
This applies in every area of our lives. Maybe if we moved away from focusing on the negatives, we would be much happier. So this week I urge you to focus on the things that you can do rather than the things you can’t. Focus on your good qualities rather than on your not so good qualities. If you’re not good at writing reports, but you are good at balancing accounts, give yourself a pat on the back for that rather than brooding over your inadequate reporting skills.
Have a lovely week!
