Throwback Thursday is basically the same as “blast from” the past. Today I look at Macy Gray’s hit single, I Try.
I Try was released in September 1999 (I was 6 years old) and is Macy’s most successful single to date. It won her the coveted Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal performance at the 2001 Grammy Awards.
This song reminds me of my childhood. Despite mincing the words as a child, the tune is still familiar and rings in my head as though it were only yesterday when my eldest brother was blasting it through his speakers.
I’ve also been listening to Macy’s latest album, Covered, which was released earlier this year. Her voice is still as soulful as it was back then. Makes you wish some of the artists that we hear today could take a listen to her and get a lesson on what music is supposed to be.
Peace and love!
